Morning star (potential bullish reversal)

  1. A large bearish candle (the downtrend is still strong).
  2. A small candle / doji (indecision, momentum stalls).
  3. A large bullish candle that closes deep into the body of the first candle.

Evening star (potential bearish reversal)

The opposite: large bullish → small candle → large bearish that closes inside the body of the first candle.

Context

Most meaningful at the end of an extended trend and right at a support/resistance area. In the middle of a range, its impact is small.

Key points

  • Pattern structure: dominance → pause → takeover.
  • It needs the right location to be worth trading.
